Promise of the Holy Spirit/Jesus Ascends to Heaven
Today in Calvary Kids, we started in the book of Acts. In Acts 1, we get to see that Jesus appears to His disciples after being risen from the grave and gives them the promise of the Holy Spirit.
Read Acts 1
Main text: Acts 1:1-11 and 23-26
Here are a few facts about Acts:
1. Luke was the author
2. We get to meet Saul who becomes Paul in this text
3. We see the start of the church
Today we are going to learn about a promise that Jesus made before He went back up into
Heaven. Our Savior knew exactly what His disciples needed and exactly what we need to be able to live our lives for Him. Jesus promised them the Holy Spirit to be a Helper to them who would guide and direct them and give them power. He asked His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit, and we too can have confidence that when God asks us to wait and promises us that He will do something, we can believe and trust in that!
Have you received the gift of the Holy Spirit? Just as Christ promised His disciples of this, we are promised that we can receive this gift as well. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us when we become believers and we can ask Him to give us power to be able to fulfill the callings or gifts He has given us. He will help each and every one of us to do the things that we cannot do on our own.
After Jesus spoke to His disciples about waiting for the Holy Spirit, He was then finally taken up to Heaven. What would you be thinking if you were able to see the sight of your Savior ascending back up to Heaven? This would be such a sight to see!
As He was ascending, two men in white asked them why they were just standing there and looking to the sky. Then in the same sentence, they said that just as Jesus was ascending into Heaven, He would come back again the same way. This was yet another promise!
Do you have confidence and trust that our Savior keeps His promises? Take heart in knowing that our Savior always will do what He says!
Family Discussion:
1. What do you think it would be like to see Jesus again risen from the dead?
2. How long did Jesus spend with His disciples after He rose from the dead?
3. Do you have trouble waiting for things that you believe the Lord has called you to?
4. What did the disciples do while they were waiting?
Memory Verse:
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
