Abraham's Test

Genesis 22:1–13; Hebrews 11:17–19

God called Abraham to offer Isaac, the son of promise, as a sacrifice. Abraham acted in faith, obeyed God, and continued to trust his promise. In the end, God provided a ram in Isaac’s place.

God was giving us a picture of another sacrifice many years later that would be a substitute for sinners like us. Jesus was our sacrificial Lamb. In the Gospel of John, Jesus is called “the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world” (John 1:29). God came to earth as a person—like us. But he lived a life without any sin, and then he died a terrible death on the cross. He died so that we can live—just like the ram died so that Isaac could live. Jesus loves us that much. We all have sin, so only Jesus could be the perfect sacrifice without sin. The new life we receive in Jesus Christ is eternal life. And it can be ours if we repent of our sins by turning away from them and trusting Jesus as our Savior.

We had a wonderful first day in our permanent church home! We are so excited to see what God will do in this building in the years to come, the lives that will be saved, the hearts that will be healed, and the many friendships that will grow. Thank you, Lord, for blessing all of us with this wonderful space where we will continue to encourage your people to follow you in all they do.
