God Calls Abram
Genesis 12:1–5; Hebrews 11:8–10, 11:6
This week we learned about a great example of faithfulness as we studied how Abram responded to God’s calling. God called Abram to leave his family and promised Abram would be a blessing and inherit a great land, a great nation, and a great name. Abram believed God, demonstrating faith and obedience even though he never saw the promises fulfilled.
It was because of Abram’s amazing faith—faith in things hoped for but not yet seen (Hebrews 11:1)—that he could obediently follow God’s lead and believe the incredible promises made to him (Genesis 17:17)
Abram was the man God chose to start the Jewish nation. It was through Abram’s long family line that Jesus Christ was born many years later. Abram showed amazing faith in God as he started off on his long journey because he didn’t know where God would lead him. But he also showed great faith in God’s promises because they could only come true if Abram had children—but he didn’t have any! Abram was already 75 years old. He probably wondered how these things would happen, but he believed and trusted God. Abram had faith that God would do what He said.
Faith is VERY important. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Faith is what allows us to believe in God, to want to know him better, to study the Bible, and to pray. All of this comes through God’s Word. As we learn more about God, we will learn to trust and believe in Him more and more as our faith grows.

Memory Verse
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:1 & 11:6
