The Worldwide Flood
Genesis 7:17-21, 9:11, 9:16
We continued our study about Noah, the Ark, and the worldwide flood. We talked about several things that help us understand that the flood covered the whole world. Many people think the flood of Noah’s day was just a local flood, but the Bible tells us it was in fact a worldwide flood.
The flood was on the earth 40 days. The waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. The Bible tells us the waters prevailed! ALL the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered. If all the mountains were being covered, we can be sure this was a HUGE flood that was covering the whole earth.
If it was just a local flood, Noah and the people of his day would have packed up and left the area. Noah would not have needed the giant Ark to save him, his family, and the animals.
We also talked a little bit about fossils. At the Flood, the water came very suddenly. Many animals and plants were buried immediately, and many of these turned into fossils. Many fossils of sea creatures are found on top of mountains! The Bible said the waters of the Flood covered the whole earth, even the mountains. So sea creatures in the oceans would have been carried over the entire earth.
In Genesis 9:11 we read about a promise that God made. The flood of Noah’s day was global; it destroyed everything on the earth. And God put a rainbow in the sky as a sign of His special promise that He would never do it again!

Memory Verse
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Genesis 6:5
