The Tabernacle - Exodus Series

This week in Calvary Kids, we learned that God wanted to live with His people. People also gave happy gifts to build God's house and He came to live in the special tent. The best thing of all though, is that we learned Jesus lets God live IN us! (1 Corinthians 3:16).

This is our last story about Moses and God's people leaving Egypt! We've learned SO many cool things! God saved His people, took care of them, and loved them so much. Today, we're going to learn something REALLY special - God wanted to LIVE with His people, so He asked them to build Him a house!
The Bible tells us: God said, "Make Me a special house so I can live with you!" God wanted a house, like a special tent! Why? So He could LIVE with His people. God didn't want to be far away - He wanted to be CLOSE. This shows how much God loves us! "Live" means to stay with someone all the time - like you live at YOUR house with your family. God wanted to live with His people like that! He wanted to be their neighbor and He wanted to be close to them every single day.
God wants to be close to YOU too! Jesus came so God can live in your heart!" The Bible tells us: Everyone brought HAPPY gifts to build God's house! Men and women, boys and girls - everyone gave because they loved God! Moses told people: "We need to build God a house! Who wants to help?" People brought gold, pretty fabrics, stones, wood - all kinds of things! They didn't have to give, but they WANTED to give. Everyone gave with HAPPY hearts because they loved God. They brought SO MUCH that Moses said "Stop! We have enough!"
The Bible tells us: The people built God's house just right! Then something AMAZING happened: God came to live in it! Everyone worked hard to build the Tabernacle (God's special tent). They made it beautiful and special for God. When it was all done, God's cloud came down and His presence filled the tent! God came to LIVE there and the people could see that God was with them!
The Bible tells us: God's cloud stayed over the tent by day, and fire by night! God led His people wherever they went. God's cloud was there in the daytime and His fire was there at night time When the cloud moved, the people moved and when the cloud stayed, the people stayed. God was with them all the time, leading them!
Now here's the BEST part- God lived in the Tabernacle tent with His people long ago and then Jesus came to live WITH us on earth! Now, if you love Jesus, God lives IN your heart through the Holy Spirit! You don't need a special tent - God lives right inside you! YOU are God's house now! Isn't that amazing?

The Tabernacle was God's house where He lived with His people. But Jesus IS God who came to live with us - and now God lives IN us!
1. God lived IN the Tabernacle in the middle of the camp --> Jesus came to live WITH us on earth (Matthew 1:23; John 1:14)
2. The Tabernacle moved with the people wherever they went --> Jesus "lived among us" and walked with people (John 1:14).
3. Only special priests could go into the Tabernacle → Because of Jesus, we ALL can talk to God anytime! (Hebrews 10:19-22).
4. The Tabernacle needed lots of animal sacrifices --> Jesus died ONCE for all our sins forever (Hebrews 10:10).
5. God's glory filled the Tabernacle --> Jesus IS God's glory, and we can come to Him! (Hebrews 1:3).
6. God lived IN the Tabernacle tent → Now God lives IN believers through the Holy Spirit! (1 Corinthians 3:16).
The Gospel in This Story:
The Tabernacle showed that God wanted to be CLOSE to His people, but there was a problem: sin kept people far away from God. Only certain people could go in different parts of the tabernacle. There were walls and curtains separating people from God's presence. That all changed when JESUS came! Jesus is God who came to live with us! He walked on earth with people, ate with them, talked with them. Jesus was "God WITH us!" Then it gets even BETTER! Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins, came back to life, and sent the Holy Spirit! Now, if you love Jesus, God lives IN YOU through the Holy Spirit! You are God's house! You carry God's presence wherever you go!

Application:
1. Put God in the Center: Just like the Tabernacle was in the center of the camp, put God in the center of your life! Talk to Him when you wake up, during the day, and before bed. Make God the most important thing!
2. Give with a Happy Heart: When you help at church, share your toys, or obey your parents, do it with a joyful heart! Not because you have to, but because you love God and want to make Him happy!
3. Obey God's Way: The people built the Tabernacle exactly how God said. When the Bible tells us to do something (be kind, share, obey, tell the truth), we should do it God's way, not change it!
4. Remember You Are God's House: If you love Jesus, the Holy Spirit lives IN you! That means you are God's house! Be careful what you fill your heart and mind with. Let God's love shine out of you to others!
