Moses, Friend of God - Exodus Series (Toddler/PreK)
Today, in Calvary Kids, we learned that Moses talked to God like a friend and He wants to be our friend too! When we spend time with Jesus, we become more like Him! Jesus is God with us!
Read Exodus 33:7-23; 34:29-35
Last week we learned that the people made a golden calf statue and that made God sad. But Moses prayed for the people, and God forgave them! Today we're going to learn something HAPPY! Moses was God's special friend! God wants to be YOUR friend too!
The Bible tells us: Moses had a special tent where he went to talk to God. It was called the "meeting tent" - a place to MEET with God! Moses made a special place just for talking to God. It was like a special "God's house" tent and anyone who wanted to pray could go there. Moses would go there to talk with God and you can talk to God too! You don't need a special tent to be able to talk to Him. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, God always listens to what you may talk to Him about.
The Bible tells us: When Moses went into the tent, God came down in a cloud! God talked with Moses face to face, like friends talk together. When Moses prayed, God showed up! God's cloud came down - that's how people knew God was there God and Moses talked like FRIENDS! They had real conversations.
God loves you SO MUCH! He wants to hear about your day! You can tell Him when you're happy, sad, or scared. He ALWAYS listens because He is your friend! The Bible tells us: Moses said to God, "Please don't make us go anywhere without You! I want You with us!" Moses knew that being with God was THE most important thing! Moses loved being with God SO MUCH that he didn't want to go anywhere without God. Being with God was more important than anything else. God promised: "I will go with you!" Moses teaches us that being with God is the BEST thing! Would you want to go to a fun place without Jesus? Do you want Jesus with you when you are happy or sad? Moses chose GOD! We should choose God too because He loves us!
The Bible tells us that ater Moses spent a long time talking with God, something AMAZING happened! Moses' FACE STARTED TO SHINE! It was bright and glowing like a light! Moses didn't even know it was shining but the Israelites saw it. Moses spent lots and lots of time with God on the mountain. When he came down, his face was GLOWING bright! It was shining like a light! Moses didn't realize his face was shining, but everyone could see it! His face shone because he'd been with God!
When YOU spend time with Jesus and when you pray and learn about Him, Jesus' love 'rubs off' on you too! Maybe your face won't glow like a flashlight, but people will see Jesus in you! You'll be extra kind, extra happy, extra loving, just like Jesus! The Bible tells us that Moses had to put a cloth over his shining face because it was so bright! But when he went to talk to God, he took it off! And when he told people God's message, he took it off! Moses' face was SO bright that he had to cover it with cloth. But when he talked to God, he could take off the cover! He could talk straight to God!
When he shared God's words there was no cover! People could see God's glory and the glow would fade, but when Moses talked to God again, it came back! Moses needed to keep talking to God to keep shining! This is the same with us! We need to pray and learn about Jesus EVERY DAY! Then Jesus' love keeps shining through us!
Here's the BEST NEWS - because of Jesus, we don't need any covers or veils. Jesus made it so we can talk to God ANYTIME, ANYWHERE! You can pray in your bed, at the park, at home; anywhere! Jesus opened the way for us to be close to God. Jesus IS God who came to be with us. When we know Jesus, we can talk to God whenever we want. God is our friend forever because of Jesus!
Christ Connection:
Moses was God's friend and saw God's glory. Jesus IS God with us, so we can know God even better!
1. Moses talked with God in a tent → Jesus came to LIVE with us! He's "God with us!" (Matthew 1:23).
2. Moses' face shined with God's light → Jesus IS the light! He doesn't just shine - He IS light! (John 8:12).
3. Moses wore a cover over his face → Jesus took away ALL the covers so we can be close to God! (Hebrews 10:19-20).
Moses got to talk to God like a friend! His face even shined because he was with God! But we have something even BETTER! Jesus IS God who came to earth to be with us! When we know Jesus, we know God! Jesus shows us how much God loves us! Because of Jesus, we can be God's friends too! We can talk to God ANYTIME! He always listens because He loves us so much! When we spend time with Jesus, which means praying, learning about Him, and singing to Him, He makes us more like Him! We become kinder, more patient, and more loving when we allow Him to work in our lives.
Application Questions:
1. Talk to God Every Day: Just like Moses talked to God in the tent, YOU can talk to God too! Tell Him about your day - happy things, sad things, everything!
2. God is Your Best Friend: Remember that God is your best friend who ALWAYS listens. You can talk to Him anytime - when you wake up, at bedtime, or anytime you need Him! •
3. Spending Time with Jesus Changes You: When you pray and learn about Jesus, you become more like Him - kind, loving, and good! Jesus' love "rubs off" on you!
