Pharoah's Hard Heart- The Exodus Series (Toddler/PreK)
Today in Calvary Kids, the kids learned the concept of hard hearts versus soft hearts in the simplest terms. Pharaoh represents someone who says no to God and is mean. The main point is that we should say yes to God, not no like Pharaoh did. God is stronger than mean people and Jesus helps us have good hearts.
Read Exodus 4:21-23; 5:1-23; 7:1-5
Remember Moses from last week? God talked to him from the burning bush and said, "Go tell Pharaoh to let My people go!" Today, we're going to learn about Pharaoh and how he would not listen to Moses' words, which was a message from God.
When Moses said, "Let God's people go!" Pharaoh said, "NO!" He had a hard, mean heart. He did not want to listen to Moses because that would mean letting all his slaves go. He wanted to keep being mean to God's people and working them very hard. But God is stronger than mean people!
The Bible tells us that Pharaoh was a mean king who wouldn't listen to God. Moses went to see King Pharaoh Moses said, "God says let His people go!" But Pharaoh said, "NO! I won't listen!" Pharaoh's heart was hard like a rock. When someone tells you to share your toys, do you say yes or no? When your mom and dad ask you to help, what do you tell them? When we keep saying "no, no, no", our hearts get hard, like Pharoah's did. When we say yes, our hearts stay soft and happy!
The Bible tells us that Pharaoh was extra mean to God's people. When Moses asked him to let the people go, Pharaoh got mad! He made God's people work even harder. God's people were so tired and sad. God's people started getting angry at Moses because things were getting worse, not better. Sometimes when we do the right thing, it seems hard at first, but God always has a plan. He's always taking care of us!
God had a special plan. God was going to show everyone that He is the strongest! Pharaoh thought he was strong, but God is stronger. God was going to do amazing things and would show everyone that He rules over the Earth. Everyone would learn that God is the real King, not Pharaoh. God gave Pharaoh so many chances to soften his heart and listen, but he did not do it. Because Pharaoh would not listen, we are going to see next week that bad things are going to happen. When we don't listen to God and want to do things our own way, good things do not always happen to us.
Do you ever disobey your parents and do what you want to do instead? If your mommy told you not to touch the stove because it's hot, what would happen to you if you did it anyways? (Burn your hand) Wouldn't it have been better to listen to your mommy? That's the same with listening to God. He always wants what is best and to keep us safe.
