David Prepares the Temple- The Life of David Series (Toddler/PreK)
Today in Calvary Kids, we learned about how David wanted to do something very special and realizing that it would be his son who would do it. Instead of being sad about this, David instead decided to be a happy helper to God and do his part in helping build the temple even if it was not going to be him to do it.
Read 2 Samuel 7; 1 Chronicles 22; 28, 29:2
David was a king who lived in a beautiful, cozy house with strong walls and a nice roof. But then he looked around and realized something: God’s special box, the Ark of the Covenant, was living in a tent. David thought, “Wait a minute! I have a pretty house, but God’s special box is in a tent? That’s not right! I want to build God a beautiful house too!” David wanted to build God a temple because he loved Him so much.
God loved David’s heart. He said, “Thank you, David! I love that you want to build me a house. But your son, Solomon, will be the one to build it.” Now, David could have been sad or even upset. But he wasn’t! Instead, he was happy to help. David said, “Okay, God! I’ll get everything ready.”
So David got busy! He gathered:
Just like David, we can be happy helpers! At church, kids can put away toys, stack chairs and throw away trash. At home, they can help mom and dad, share toys with friends, and show kindness. When we help, God smiles. When we serve with love, we are following David's example.
David helped prepare a house for God. But today, something even more amazing is true: Jesus is making us into God’s house! The Bible says that when we love Jesus, He lives in our hearts. We are part of God’s family, and that makes us His special house.
