God Sees the Heart- The David Series (Toddler/PreK)

Today in Calvary Kids, we are starting a whole new series about David! We will get to explore the life of David and show how it parallels with the life of Jesus. We can tend to look at the outward appearance of people, but God is more interested on what is going on inside of a man, rather than outside of him.

Read 1 Samuel 16, 1 Samuel 17:34-36

Everyone was probably surprised when God picked David over the rest. It says that even Samuel thought it should be one of David’s older brothers. God had other plans though, and had been prepping David in many different ways. Let’s read a different section of the bible to see how God was preparing David for his calling as King

In 1 Samuel 17:34-36, God used David's time as a shepherd to teach David many lessons. First, he taught him to be humble. Being humble means to understand your need for God and serve others instead of yourself. Next, through being a shepherd, David learned what he would need to know later in having to watch over and take care of people. While being a shepherd, David also had to fight off lions and bears. When he would become King, he would then later have to fight off armies. This is why David was such a strong warrior because of everything he went through beforehand and God had prepared for him to do to be ready for being a King.

It’s important to know that God is trying to train us and help us get to where He wants us to be. Sometimes we don’t want to do the little things, but those little things help us practice to be able to handle the big things. You guys can practice being faithful with small things like being kind, listening to your parents, and telling the truth. God notices your faithfulness!

How this parallels with the life of Jesus:

1. Like David was a shepherd and overlooked, Jesus was overlooked too.
John 1:46 "And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

2. But Jesus is the Good Shepherd who rescues us! God used David to rescue Israel. God sent Jesus to rescue the world.
John 3:16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
