CALVARY CHAPEL MERIDIAN

God Has a Plan

Today in Calvary Kids, we talked about Paul being put on trial in Jerusalem and what that looked like.

Read Acts 23

Paul starts out by saying he has lived a good life before God. The Jewish council listening didn’t like what he had to say and they hurt him. Paul didn’t mean to disrespect the High Priest. He even said to them that he was a Pharisee and that his
dad was one too. He ends on verse 6 saying that he hopes people will be risen from the dead and was hopeful that people would come to know Jesus and receive eternal life. When he said this, this was something that really got people mad.

The words that Paul spoke about people rising from the dead, started an argument. The Pharisees and Sadducees did not agree on this matter and a fight broke out. They immediately took Paul out of there and put him in the army building for a certain amount of time.

Isn’t it crazy how words can cause such craziness? This is why we need to be very careful with our words. This was all so new to people. This idea of life after death. Eternal life?
It’s so amazing that God gave us that gift!

It says the Lord came and stood next to Paul! How cool would that be?
I would feel so comforted if the Lord did that in a scary time. Guess what? God is by our side. Always. We can’t see Him like we see the person next to us, but He is
with us. We have the Spirit available to be our comforter anytime and all we have to do is pray.

And when Paul was super discouraged, Jesus came to lift him up and told him he was going to Rome. Rome was a huge city at the time and Paul wanted to go their really bad to share Jesus with everyone. During this time, the Pharisees were plotting to kill Paul, but God was in the midst of it all and was going to protect him.

What are the chances that Paul’s nephew heard the plan?! It was no chance. God allowed that to happen completely and Paul was then warned. The message then got back to the commander and he did not allow the plan to be told to anyone else. In verses 23-34, the commander got 200 soldiers, 70 horseman, and 200 men with spears to take Paul to
governor Felix in order for him to listen to Paul's case.

Since Paul was born a Roman citizen, he was able to get a trial in Rome and God had favor over him during this entire time. We will find out what happens to Paul in the next couple of chapters. Today, I want us to focus on the fact that God has a plan and we can trust that He has us in that plan.  God has had a plan since the beginning. When sin entered the world, it separated people from God. God didn’t want this, so he had a plan even though didn’t come until much later. Does anyone think they know what God’s plan was to help with sin? It says his plan in John 3:16. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Jesus would come into the world to save us from our sins. That plan had finally happened and now Paul was going around telling everyone about it. We can do our part by praying for others and for sharing God’s love. We can show them what it is like to accept this love and God’s plan. Let’s pray and thank God for his loving plan and ask him to help us trust Him.

Discussion Questions:
1. What was Paul on trial for?

2. Did God have a plan for Paul?

3. How does God encourage you?

4. How can we encourage others for God?

5. God had a plan for Paul. Did Paul trust that plan?

Memory Verse:
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever
believes in Him, will not perish, but have everlasting life.”
