CALVARY CHAPEL MERIDIAN

Apostles Freed from Prison

This week in Calvary Kids, we see how the apostles and believers came together as one and provided for one another with whatever needs there were. The apostles continued to perform many signs and wonders.

Read Acts 4:32-5

The end of chapter four starts out with the beauty of new believers in Christ sharing all they had with one another. They were sharing as the Holy Spirit was stirring them to do so. It is so important to give to others because God has given so much to us. We can always pray and ask God to help us give because sometimes it’s not easy to share, but it is always worthwhile.

After that, the Holy Spirit did many more miracles and it caused more people to believe in Jesus. But the religious leaders were jealous (Jealous means we want what someone else has, whether its attention or wanting what they have) because they wanted all the attention that the apostles were getting. They put them in prison yet again! (prison was a cold dark place where sometimes they wore shekels on their hands and wrists).

Being jealous or wanting something that someone else has makes us act in a mean way. If our siblings or friends have something good happen to them, we should be happy for them and not sad that we don’t have it. We should rejoice in the things our brothers and sisters have with them and not be against them for it.

While the apostles were locked up in jail, an angel came and appeared to them and opened the door of the jail. They simply walked out and continued to be bold and tell people about Jesus. At this point the religious leaders couldn’t stop them. The only thing the religious leaders could do is whip them and tell them to stop talking about Jesus.

The apostles felt proud that they were considered worthy to be punished like Jesus was and rejoiced as they left. Although they had been warned to not teach about Christ, they continued to do so without fear because they knew how important it was for others to hear about Him.

Family Discussion:
1. Have you ever given away things to help those in need?

2. If you can’t sell something or give something away, how can you help others in need?

3. When it says to Obey God and not men, does that mean we don’t have to obey our parents?

4. Why is obeying our parents also obeying God? (Read Ephesians 6:1-3)

5. What can we rejoice over?

6. What are some blessings the God has given you or is doing in your life?

Memory Verse:
"Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!" Acts 5:29
