Fruit of the Spirit: Self-Control

God Can Help Us Keep Our Actions and Emotions in Check

Today we learned about the final fruit of the Spirit: self-control.

Self-control means that we can control our bodies to make the right choice instead of
the wrong choice. Sometimes it can be hard to stay in control of our actions and emotions. We must learn to control our words and our actions. If someone says something mean to you, your first thought  might be to say something mean back. Using unkind words is not practicing self-control. When you stop and think, you can let God help you make the right choice in what you say. God can also help you use self-control to obey your parents.

One way we can have better self-control is by having God’s words in our hearts. Psalm
119:11 says, “I have hidden your word in my heart so that I won’t sin against you.” Knowing the Bible and practicing all the fruits of the Spirit helps us to not sin or do wrong. With God’s help, we can show the fruits and love others like Jesus.
